Whispering Lakes Tee Times

The history of the 18-hole golf course on Riverside Drive between Vineyard and Archibald avenues is quite interesting. Originally, the land was purchased by Ontario in 1914 to be used as a sewer farm. However, as the years went by, the city acquired more and more land until it had 242 acres by 1959. A contract was then negotiated with Ontario Golf Inc to run the facility, and in 1960 it was renamed Whispering Lakes Ontario Public Course. Although the golf course was the main attraction at first, it was soon overshadowed by the Royal Tahitian clubhouse, which gained national attention. Unfortunately, the clubhouse deteriorated over time and was torn down in 2010. A temporary clubhouse was brought in while a new clubhouse is being planned for the future.
